Sean Spicer, the dancer

The Sean Spicer show continues.

Remember Sean? He was the press secretary for President Donald Trump. He was contentious and madly loyal to Trump. Spicer was the one who claimed that the crowd for Trump’s inauguration was the largest ever. This despite evidence to the contrary. He never backed down from this and other falsehoods.

Spicer left the post and has made a few appearances on television, but his reputation has never been redeemed, especially since being savaged on Saturday Night Live skits.

For the last several weeks he has been on a new path of rehabilitation. He is one of the competitors on Dancing with the Stars. That is the television show that pairs celebrities with professional dancers. Viewer votes are taken and based on that and technical scores, a winner is announced after the field is sized down.

The show Monday night was the fifth week of the season, and Spicer survived each of them. According to reports, he has scored low in technique, but he may be doing well with voter count. Donald Trump tweeted that viewers should vote for Spicer since he was loyal to the President.

Based on the show Monday, Spicer will need a lot of votes. He performed as Woody from Toy Story. He was not bad, but the others out-shined him.

He was, in fact, more convincing as a dancer than as a press secretary. Most likely, even the President’s plea will not see him through the season.

Spicer’s inclusion on the show brought some negative reaction. The host said he had hoped the show would be a “joyful respite from our exhausting political climate.” Not helping, Spicer texted that his appearances on the show would “show Hollywood those who stand with Christ won’t be discounted.”

The entire episode shows that despite the hopes of some, politics will not be kept at bay.

Even a show such as Dancing with the Stars cannot escape America’s divisions and animosities when it comes to politics. Politics have eroded every facet of everyday life. It permeates everything. One would think a show such as Dancing with the Stars would be immune.

It will be interesting to see if Spicer claims his routines were the best ever or if the president claims when Spicer is ejected it is simply fake news and he actually won.
