Down 1-2 in a showdown battle last Thursday with league rival Liberty, the Bulldog volleyball girls came back to tie the tally 2-2 and then came back again to win the match in a fifth-game decider before a big homecoming crowd.
Liberty made the trip south after defeating Colfax in the first match of NE-South competition. The rematch came after both teams continued undefeated in league play, although Colfax topped Liberty in the last round of the Okanogan jamboree.
The action ended with Liberty pegging a 14-12 lead in the short fifth game to get just a point short of a win.
Liberty missed on the next serve, and Colfax scored on a cross shot by Sophie Klaveano to tie it up at 14-14.
Kierstyn York scored on a kill, and Colfax booked match point on a net scramble for a 16-14 win.
Colfax clicked for a 25-22 win the first game, but Liberty took the next two games 25-18 and 25-23 for a 2-1 edge. Colfax charged for a 25-22 win in the fourth game to lock it up at 2-2 and with digs for the resilient Colfax back court.
Justice Brown was credited with four aces. Asher Cai was booked for four blocks.
Coach Brandy Brown and the Bulldogs are campaigning without a senior in the lineup.
Liberty Senior Maisie Burnham hit 25 kills for the match, and York hit 16 for Colfax. Abree Aune and Justice Brown each had 25 digs.
After the big homecoming win, the Bulldogs traveled to Genesee Saturday and were swept by the Idaho Bulldog club 25-21, 25-22 and 25-10.
Molly Hanson led the host with 10 kills.
The Bulldogs played a non-leaguer at Upper Columbia Academy Tuesday and swept the Spangle club 25-8, 25-15, 25-14. York and Cai each had 10 kills, and York hit seven aces. Brown booked 30 assists.
After playing Reardan today, Colfax will have road matches with Lind/Ritzville/Sprague and Tekoa/Rosalia to finish out the second round of NE-South play.
