It came down to the draw of a number at the start of the school year.

Pomeroy and Oakesdale both ran through the Southeast 1B league volleyball schedule, losing to no one but each other, culminating in Oakesdale’s home sweep of the Pirates Oct. 24.

Would that mean the Nighthawks take the no. 1 seed into the district tournament? No - Pomeroy will because their name was drawn higher than Oakesdale’s by the WIAA District Nine Director at a September athletic director’s meeting.

With the tiebreaker decided, no. 1-seed Pomeroy will host no. 4 St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m...
