Garfield/Palouse senior Anais Mills placed second in the all-B state cross country race on the Sun Willows course at Pasco, and the Colfax girls team placed ninth in the state final which totaled 112 finishers.
Mills, who topped the district and regional races, clocked 19:24.6 on the hilly Pasco course. She was topped by Life Christian sophomore Gabby Martin who ran away from the field and finished with a 17:57.5.
Colfax girls booked 184 points behind the 96 win posted by Pope John Paul II of Lacey. Anna Cocking had the top finish for the Colfax girls at 16th with a 20:44.
Mills' number-two finish capped a 192 total for Garfield/Palouse for a 10th place finish among the 12 team entrants in the race.
Colfax boys placed 12th with 270 points behind the 70-point team win by Northwest Christian of Lacey. Sophomore Daniel Qiuntana of Ilwaco won the boys race at 15:55.8.
Colfax was led by Josh Huber and Kolby Slate, who lost a shoe during the race, and sprinted with Huber at the finish. Huber placed 42nd at 17:37.1; Kolby Slate, 43rd at 17:37.7.
Other finishers for Colfax girls were were Miya Ensley, 27th at 21:18; Madison Dingman, 49th at 22:11; Hannah Baerlocher, 78th at 23:08; Jorga Slate, 84th at 23:14; Emma Miller, 100th at 24:35, and Kaitlyn Cornish, 103rd at 24:46.
Other finishers for the boys were Dyamin Vanek, 70th at 18:07; Kolby Sisk, 99th at 18:29; Ryan Henning, 116th at 18:45; Tyler Bober, 133rd at 19:09, and Ryan Baljo, 147th at 20:60.
Other finishers for Garfield/Palouse were Kenney Cook, 19th at 21:01; Layne Southern, 82nd at 23:15; Samantha Snekvik, 86th at 23:21, and Jessica Olson, 93rd at 23:50.
Senior Catherine Treis led a trio of SJEL runners at 42nd with a 21:51. Ellie Tollett finished 66th at 22:44, and Lauren Stubbs finished 69th at 22:48.
Tekoa/Rosalia freshman Trinity Bingaman placed 80th at 23:12.
Erik Lazcano, also a freshman from Tekoa/Rosalia, placed 126th at 19:04 in the boys race.
