County approves two road vacations

County Commissioners Monday approved road vacation of segments of Jim Davis Road and north of St. John Gene Nelson Road

Dan Hall, county right-of-way agent, reported that farmer Larry Miller worked with landowner Ross Jordan to come to an agreement to allow Miller to traverse the soon to-be vacated Davis Road when needed to move farm equipment.

Jim Davis Road and Gene Nelson Road are local access, mostly seasonal roads that run between Sunset Road and Thorn Creek Road.

Miller, who farms ground near Pine City, spoke at a public hearing on the matter in October.

He said he uses Jim Davis Road six to 10 times per year. He explained that with the proposed particular road section gone private, it would add five more miles to his commute on pavement, which is bad for equipment. The subsequent agreement with Jordan nullified his concerns.

The commissioners' approval includes two-thirds of the 2.65-mile long Jim Davis Road and most of the 3.67-mile Gene Nelson Road.

The county will grade the roads one to two times per year at an estimated cost of $200 per mile.

All county dirt roads are officially closed from Nov. 15 to March 15.
