Colfax FFA soils and land evaluation teams competed Nov. 6 at the state event in Benton County. Colfax's first team of Cora Shindler, Gunnar Aune, Ayden Miller, McCoy Nelson and Kolby Slate won the state championship, and team two of Mark Morgan, Perry Imler, Derek Repp, Dustin Broeckel and Riane Jones placed sixth. Three members were recognized among the top ten individuals. Aune was second, Nelson sixth and Morgan ninth. Two teams Nov. 14 traveled to Moses Lake to attend the Washington State FFA potato evaluation and tractor driving event. The potato event teaches students to grade potatoes based on USDA grading standards and recognize defects and blemishes.
Team one with Slate, Cole Baerlocher, Aune, Cotton Booker and Ayden Milker, placed fourth. Team two with Sidney Appel, Sydney Berquist, Cadence Monson, Kennedy Schmidt and Nathan De Avila, placed seventh. Slate was recognized as a top ten individual.
The Colfax tractor driving team consisted of Morgan, Nelson and Broeckel.
Colfax FFA and junior class wreaths will be available and ready for pickup Nov. 27.
