Lone May bid rejected:

Issues call for bids on airport project

At Monday's port meeting, Debbie Snell, Port of Whitman properties and development manager, updated the port staff and commissioners on the status of the Port of Whitman County Business Air Center realignment and drainage project.

Back in May, the port began a project that would include paving existing airport access roads and installing a new drainage infrastructure at the airport. Other parts of the project include grading and cleaning existing ditches to help prevent flooding.

When the project was first in works, Snell noted the main purpose was to realign the roads to better separate cars and airplanes.

Snell said when they put the project up for bid in May they only received one bid and that bid was rejected.

“We decided to reject that bid and go back out to bid this fall,” Snell said. “The bid advertisement went out in the paper last Thursday, Nov. 20.”

There will be a pre-bid meeting at the Port of Whitman office Dec. 5 at 1 p.m.

“We will have a pre-bid meeting with any interested contractors and the engineer,” Snell said. “Then the bids are due Dec. 17.”

Snell said she will update the port commissioners at their December 19 meeting, and there is a possibility a bid will be awarded at that time.
