Garfield, Palouse discuss police contract renewal

The towns of Palouse and Garfield are in the midst of negotiating a renewal to a four-year shared policing contract.

Possible additions or revisions up for discussion include setting up an advisory group, adjusting to a two-year contract instead of four, and Garfield accepting a 30-minute response time instead of 20-minute guarantee so (on call) officers are more feasibly able to meet it.

The matter came up after Palouse voted this summer to increase overtime pay as the Palouse department temporarily dropped to two officers. Palouse and Garfield share police coverage.
