Vikings book split in border battle

Garfield/Palouse teams booked a split Tuesday when they headed over the border to play Potlatch to open their season. The Gar/Pal girls banked a 41-28 win, and the Potlatch boys took their side of the matchup 61-37. The Viking girls were led by 20 points from Kenzi Pedersen who hit six from the field and 8-for-14 from the toss line.

Garfield/Palouse staked a 25-18 edge at the half and then held the Loggers to two points in the third quarter.

Other scorers for the Viking girls were Lexi Brantner 3, Rielee Renne 4, Paige Collier 4, Makenzie Collier 4 and Marci Brantner 4.

Kennedy Thompson led Potlatch with 11.

On the boys side, the Loggers booked a 27-14 lead over the Vikings at the half and kept adding to the lead in the last two quarters for the 61-37 win.

Connor Akins led all scorers with 29 points for the Loggers.

Blake Jones topped the Vikings’ chart with 11 points. Other scorers for the Vikings were Dawson Dugger 7, Austin Jones 6, Jacob Anderson 6, Jaxson Orr 3 and Ethan Hawkins 4.
