Serving Whitman County since 1877
Colfax Mayor Todd Vanek and Councilman Al Vorderbrueggen both signed off Monday night after finishing their terms of office. Both decided not to seek another term when filing opened for this year's election.
Both completed two terms of office, but Vorderbrueggen had a longer run because he was appointed to the council before he started his first term.
Mayor Vanek pointed out a lot of changes have taken place along Main Street since he started his first term eight years ago. He said the business district now has "a liveliness" which wasn't present eight years ago.
"That's the result of a lot of work by a lot of people," Vanek commented.
He also said one of the big gains during his terms was the formation of the Friends of the Parks group which stepped up to help fund parks improvements when the city funds became stretched.
Vorderbrueggen said he has a lot of confidence in the city staff. He credited them with getting a lot accomplished with the limited resources provided.
