Pomeroy holds off Oakesdale girls 43-40

The Oakesdale and Garfield/Palouse boys won more games last weekend to keep their claim as the top two teams in the Southeast 1B league. For the girls, Pomeroy kept that claim with a narrow win at Oakesdale. The Colton girls are also unbeaten in early league play.

With the season now on a break for Christmas, play will resume Dec. 27-28 as the Oakesdale and St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse boys and girls teams go to the Reardan tournament. Also, Colton will again host a Christmas tournament Dec. 26-28, with boys and girls teams including Garfield/Palouse, Waterville, Wahkiakum and Curlew.

League play will resume Jan. 4.

BOYS

Oakesdale 66

Pomeroy 38

Oakesdale (7-0 overall, 3-0 league) handled Pomeroy at home Dec. 20 as Matt Hockett led with 19 points and Simon Anderson scored 16. Kit Hockett and Tyler Bober each got 11.

Pomeroy's Byron Stallcop scored 10 points to lead the Pirates (1-5, 1-2) – all in the third quarter.

Garfield/Palouse 66

Colton 33

Playing at Colton Dec. 20, Gar/Pal (5-1, 3-0) ran past the Wildcats as five different players scored in double figures. Junior post Jacob Anderson led with a career-high 17 points while Blake Jones delivered a line of 14 points, seven steals, seven rebounds and five assists.

Kian Ankerson led Colton (1-3, 1-1) with 13 points in the loss.

Tekoa/Rosalia 74

St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse 55

The Eagles opened strong in a non-league home game Dec. 20, leading Tekoa//Rosalia 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Timberwolves then outscored SJEL 28-12 in the second to take control.

Mitchell Billings led T/R with 26 points, Garrett Naught scored 23 and Anthony Gehring 21.

Ty Harder led the Eagles with 27 points while Doug Stach had 12 in the loss, dropping St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse to 1-5 overall, 0-2 in league.

Wilbur/Creston 72

The Eagles took in a road loss Saturday, Dec. 21. Owen Swannack led with 10 points.

Genesee 63

At home Dec. 21, Colton dropped a non-league game to the Bulldogs from across the border. Kian Ankerson led Colton with 13 points.

GIRLS

Pomeroy 43

Oakesdale 40

In an early season matchup between two contenders for the Southeast 1B league, visiting Pomeroy edged Oakesdale Dec. 20.

Lizzy Perry led the Nighthawks (5-2, 2-1 league) with 11 points while Bree Rawls had 10.

For the Pirates (6-0, 3-0), Heidi Heytvelt scored 13 points and Maddy Dixon had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Colton 65

Garfield/Palouse 47

Colton got its second league win Dec. 20 at home as Taylor Thomas scored 23 points, Josie Schultheis 12 and Rylee Vining nine. The Wildcats are now 3-3 overall, 2-0 in league.

Kenzie Pederson led Gar/Pal (2-2, 0-2) scorers with 15 points.

Genesee 52

A game-high 22 points from Rylee Vining helped Colton outlast Genesee for a non-league win at home Dec. 21. Taylor Thomas added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats. Josie Schultheis scored 10 points with eight rebounds.
