James Howard Fanning, 94, of Casa Grande, Ariz., passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019.
He was preceded in death by parents Charles L.E. and Bernice Slate Fanning, wife Betty Grittman Fanning, daughter Cynthia Fanning Young and brothers William G. Fanning and Charles "Ted" Fanning. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Pounder Fanning, son Jack Fanning, stepdaughter Sally Palmer Mack and Jason A. Palmer.
Mr. Fanning was a self-employed farmer for 49 years in Oakesdale, Wash. He was a benefactor to the Oakesdale Historical Society and was a second-generation Mayor of Oakesdale, Wash. Mr. Fanning was also on the Board of Trustees at the Presbyterian Church in Oakesdale. In his retirement years he became an avid woodworker, finishing furniture, and relief carving creating family heirlooms of country settings, especially barns. He loved reading, bike riding and daily walks.
At Mr. Fanning's request, cremation will be private. Arrangements entrusted to J Warren Cole and Maud Gardens Chapel.
