Colfax girls start league run after 1-1 run at West Valley

Colfax girls will start the January NE league run Friday after booking a split in against A division teams in the big Eagle Classic at West Valley. The Bulldogs defeated Colville 45-37 in a Thursday trip to West Valley's triple gym complex, and the fought Lakeland all the way Saturday afternoon before sustaining a 44-48 loss.

Saturday's defeat left the Bulldogs at 7-2 on the season with Reardan's girls slated to play here Friday in an NE-South league round.

Reardan will arrive at Colfax with a 3-5 mark after booking a split in their own tourney last week. They edged SJEL 41-39 with a strong second half in the Saturday round after being edged 55-52 by Oakesdale in the Friday round.

Senior Kim Dewey hit 20 points against the Nighthawks in the Friday battle, and she led the Indians in the Saturday win over the Eagles.

Saturday at West Valley, Colfax and Lakeland from Rathdrum locked up in a battle which went all four quarters. The game was tied with 90 seconds left, but the Lakers from Rathdrum dropped the final points for the 48-44 win.

Asher Cai hit a game-high 20 points to lead the Bulldogs. She also had eight rebounds and three steals in a game where ball possession was a big factor for Colfax.

Skylre Sakamoto-Howell had four steals against the Lakers.

Colfax trailed by two points, 23-25 after the first half, and out-scored Lakeland by four after the break to take the lead going into the last quarter.

Colfax face Lakeland after a 45-37 win over Colville in the Thursday round of the Eagle Classic.

Colfax posted a one-point lead, 25-24, after three quarters, but roared for 20 points on the last frame for the win.

Sydney Berquist hit 14 point to lead Colfax, and Cai finished with 11.

Kaitlyn Cornish, who finished with five points, hit the lone three-pointer for the game.
