Broncos charge bags win in second Colfax thriller

Colfax boys, who took an amazing comeback win over the LRS Broncos when the two teams locked up at Colfax, sustained a five-point loss Tuesday at Ritzville. The Broncos charged late and took the win 57-52.

The battle went to the final buzzer in a rally vs. rally format with the Broncos holding the last card.

Colfax had the lead as of the last 28 seconds, but it didn’t stick.

The Bulldogs remained afloat on three-point shots with Gavin Hammer hitting a trey for a 44-43 edge.

The Broncos hit five fast points to lead 49-44 at the three-minute mark.

Hunter Claassen hit a three to cut the lead to two points, and John Lustig followed with another lead for a 52-51 edge for the Bulldogs with 30 seconds.

Austin Thompson rolled down the court for the final bucket with two seconds left. Thompson led all scorers with 21 points for the Broncos.

Colfax posted a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Broncos rolled back for 20 points in the second frame for a two-point lead at the half.

The game was believed to be a decider for seeding the NE District’s marathon playoffs at West Valley which is slated to start next Saturday with play-in games for the lower ranked teams.

Colfax has one more home game this evening with league-leading Liberty on the guest list.
