The Colfax Bulldogs met the Lind/Ritzville/ Sprague/Washtucna/ Kahlotus Broncos in the semifinals of the Northeast 2B District basketball tournament Tuesday and won 45-36.
Asher Cai led the Bulldogs at West Valley High School in Spokane with 21 points and five steals. Kierstyn York scored 12 points.
"It was a battle. We played aggressive defense and have made better basketball choices these last three weeks," said Coach Corey Baerlocher.
Colfax (16-7, 8-5) advances to meet Liberty (21-1, 12-0) in Saturday's district final. The Lancers beat Colfax twice in the regular season by notable margins, led by seniors Maisie Burnham and Aleena Cook.
Both teams, by making the district final, have qualified to advance to next weekend's regional round which will take place at sites around the state.
"Saturday, this week, it's bragging rights," said Baerlocher. "The next time you meet is the one you want to win."
Winners in next week's regional round games go on to the state brackets at Spokane Arena. Some losers may make it too, depending on if they are seeded high enough (RPI) based on regular season play.
Confusing?
"At this point, you just gotta win," said Baerlocher. "Winning takes care of a lot of things."
