Tuesday night in the Northeast 2B District semifinals in Spokane, the Colfax boys went to overtime against Liberty and lost 74-62.
Unbeaten Liberty – which beat Colfax twice in the regular season – now sends the Bulldogs to an elimination game against Tekoa/Rosalia Thursday night, both teams still with a shot to make regionals.
Colfax (16-8, 8-4) trailed by nine points to Liberty at the start of the fourth quarter, before forcing turnovers to capitalize and tie the game. At the end of regulation, the Bulldogs had a chance at a winning shot but turned the ball over.
Liberty then controlled overtime, outscoring Colfax 20-8. Three Colfax players fouled out.
The Lancers shot 31-of-42 from the free throw line for the game. Colfax was 16-of-21.
Sophomore John Lustig led Colfax with 27 points in the loss, with eight rebounds. Hunter Claassen had 13 points and four assists.
Tekoa/Rosalia (10-13, 4-8) lost to Northwest Christian 77-61 Tuesday after eliminating Chewelah 59-52 Feb. 15.
Game time is Thursday night at 7 p.m. back at West Valley High School in Spokane.
Right: John Lustig battles through Morgan Keller of Kettle Falls Thursday in a 72-57 Colfax victory.
