Serving Whitman County since 1877
During this time of uncertainty, in regards to the coronavirus, Sarah Highfield, Port of Whitman communications director, informed the port commissioners that the Snake River Family Festival is still planned to go on as normal.
The event is scheduled for May 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Boyer Park and Marina.
“We are actively monitoring recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Governor Jay Inslee in regards to the family festival,” Highfield said.
The CDC is advising against gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. The estimated amount of people planned to attend the festival is 500.
Highfield mentioned this CDC recommendation would run up to the beginning of May and with the festival at the end of May, they are currently still in the clear.
Port Commissioner Tom Kammerzell mentioned during the meeting that during the time of the festival Almota Road will be closed.
“The Almota Road is the direct road down there,” Kammerzell said. “This needs to be taken into consideration to let those attending know they'll need to go the long way.”
The port staff noted that if there are any changes to the Snake River Family Festival, the public will be notified as soon as possible.
Boyer Park electrical project going back to bid
The port received two bids for electrical work that needs to be done down at Boyer Park and Marina.
The bids came from Metro Group LLC and Corp Solutions. Metro Group LLC put $29,595.90 forward and Corp Solutions bid $19,850.
“Both of these bids were overestimated for this specific project,” said Chief Operating Officer, Kara Riebold. She said they went down to Boyer Park and found areas where the scope of the project could be adjusted.
At this time, both bids were rejected by the port. The port will go back out to bid in roughly a week or so, according to Riebold.
