Amelia (Amy) Bafus passed away while residing at a Regency Canyon Lakes rehabilitation facility in Kennewick, Wash., on March 31, 2020. She was 96 years. A private burial has taken place where she was laid to rest next to her husband, Jack, and their three sons Harvey, David, and Richard.
Amy was born in Belfast in North Ireland on September 16, 1923, to Sarah and George Greenaway. Growing up in Ireland, Amy enjoyed living next to the ocean, dancing, and visiting family in the country. During World War II, Amy enlisted in the Women’s Royal Navy Service and was an officer’s assistant. It was during this time that she met Jack Bafus.
The two were married and had their first child, Harvey, while living in Ireland. Amy and Harvey then relocated to the St. John, Wash., to join Jack and be a family. Amy and Jack had two other children, David and Richard. While raising children, Amy also worked as a cook at the school in St. John. She enjoyed church activities, gardening, cooking and baking for her family.
Amy is survived by grandchildren Samuel Bafus of Prineville, Ore., and Sarah Fansler of Kennewick, Wash .; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, her siblings, and her children. The family suggests that memorials be made to the St. John Methodist Church.
