Serving Whitman County since 1877
PULLMAN-The United Way of Whitman County received a personal gift of $20,000 from Ed and Beatriz Schweitzer to the United Way of Whitman County’s COVID-19 Recovery Fund.
“We at the United Way are so grateful to all of our donors, but this gift from Dr. and Mrs. Schweitzer will make a significant difference in addressing the lives of our residents,” said Kris Finch, vice president of the United Way of Whitman County. “Due to the sheer volume of individuals affected by the coronavirus the requests are significant. We know that funds are still needed particularly to help with the basics of food and staples for residents to sustain their families,” Finch added.
The United Way will allocate 100 percent of the funds received to support vital programs run by local non-profit agencies, helping them communicate with the people that need assistance, feed the unemployed and assure that services will continue to residents of the county. The Whitman County United Way set up a dollar-for-dollar matching fund for the first $5,000 brought in. At this time $26,500 has been allocated and checks are in the mail to non-profit agencies that have applied for support.
“This transformative gift will quickly impact the health and welfare of hundreds of individuals and families throughout Whitman County who have been affected by COVID-19. The Schweitzers clearly understand the need and have responded with the support necessary to strengthen security and inspire hope during a very dark time for many. For this, we are extremely grateful,” added United Way of Whitman County President Ed Sala.
