Serving Whitman County since 1877
Daniel Ellis Abbott passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 13, 2020, from a massive heart attack. He was 52. Daniel was born June 17, 1967, in Spokane, Wash. As native of the Northwest, Dan was happy to be able to move back from Fort Wayne, Ind., to “God’s Country” and resided in a treasured family home in Colfax, Washington.
Raised in Washington, he graduated from Colville High School, and later studied secondary education, political science and geography at Washington State University. Dan established himself professionally in the marketing and mortgage industries. He most enjoyed raising his children, collecting and shooting firearms, snowboarding, mountain biking, collecting a vast array of music, cooking elaborate meals, coaching roller derby and curating his deep affection for '80s counterculture. He showed a rare commitment, to the pleasure of many, of taking his three Shih Tzu dogs on regular “Jeep rides.”
He is preceded in death by the grandparents he revered, Howard and Dorothy Abbott; both his parents, Gary Abbott and Della Hallowell (Shultz); his stepfather, Larry Hallowell; and his younger sister, Johanna Dorothy Abbott.
He is survived by three children whom he loved dearly, Ellis, Avery (Ricky) Houdyshell, and Tristan, all residing in Indiana. He also leaves behind his uncle, Dave Abbott; stepmother, Patricia Kristensen; half-brother, Marcus Jackson; and stepsiblings, Crystal Cameron-Forbes, Ramona Hallowell, Jay Hallowell, Mike Hallowell and Kay Hallowell; as well as several nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, Dan. You’ll be dearly missed.
