Heroin, fentanyl found during traffic stop

COLFAX – A Lewiston woman was booked into Whitman County Jail Saturday on charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver, possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine and driving under the influence following a traffic stop.

Hannah Barnes, 24, was stopped by Whitman County Deputy Cory Alcantar at about 9 p.m. Saturday in downtown Colfax after he observed multiple traffic violations. After speaking to Barnes, he suspected she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Sgt. Keith Cooper and Narcotics K-9 Lilly responded. Lilly gave a positive indication for the scent of narcotics from inside the vehicle.

A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle which lead deputies to the discovery of 14 grams of packaged heroin, scales, $310, a small quantity of prescription grade fentanyl and additional drug paraphernalia. Deputies also located a loaded firearm concealed with the narcotics during the search.

Barnes was booked into the county jail with her first court appearance scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Joshua Wakefield, 29, was the passenger of the vehicle. He is facing charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver, possession of fentanyl and unlawful possession of a firearm.
