Neighbor alleges threat

PULLMAN – Pullman Police arrested Jose Mata, 29, the evening of April 28 on charges of alleged harassment with intent to kill.

Officers responded to an apartment complex on Terre View Dr. at approximately 8:30 p.m. According to the arrest reports, the occupants of the apartment, Daniel Norfolk, 20, and Benjamin Holmes-Scanlon, 19, were doing homework on their balcony. Mata came onto his balcony a floor above, wrapping his hands for boxing and offered to box Holmes-Scanlon. Mata allegedly had a conversation with females in the courtyard and afterward threatened to shoot Holmes-Scanlon. According to the arrest report, Mata has previously threatened to fight Norfolk and Holmes-Scanlon of the apartment. When Mata knocked on the apartment after threatening to shoot them, Norfolk called police.

Mata denied the conversation or making the threat.

Mata was booked into Whitman County Jail and later allowed release on his own recognizance with an order to have no contact with Norfolk. A harassment no contact order was also filed against Mata for Holmes-Scanlon.
