COLFAX – The Colfax School District has hired Andrew Borders as the new principal for Jennings Elementary School. Borders will officially take his new position on July 1.
“Borders is well equipped to continue to lead Jennings Elementary School to achieve and exceed academic expectations for the school,” said Superintendent Jerry Pugh. “He is a caring individual who will take the time to get to know our students and their families.”
The position initially had 11 people interested with nine applying. The district narrowed the applicants down to three for the interview process.
Interviews for the position were held on Thursday, April 30, and Borders was hired and approved by the school board on Monday, May 11.
Borders’s most recent professional experience is as the K-12 Summer School Assistant Director/Principal for the Sunnyside School District. Prior to that, Borders has been a Sunnyside High School Administrative Intern, History, Psychology and Sociology Teacher at Sunnyside High School and he was a financial advisor in Spokane.
Pugh said Borders is a very positive individual with a strong work ethic and high integrity.
When the search for the new principal began Pugh said he wanted someone who will see the value of Colfax and wants to be apart of that, someone who will be an ambassador for the elementary school.
“Borders brings with him a lot of passion for students, parents and staff and a desire to become a part of the Colfax community,” Pugh said.
Borders received his Bachelor of Science in Government and History from Eastern Washington University in 2007, as well as a Master of Education from EWU in 2011. In June 2019 he received his Principal Certificate from EWU.
While in the Sunnyside School District Borders was a member of the Sunnyside High School Booster Club for one year as well as the organizer of a summer track and field camp for Sunnyside School District programs.
“I am confident that upon meeting and working with Borders the students, parents and community will recognize how fortunate we are to have Borders as a member of the Bulldog family,” Pugh said.
