COLFAX – The Citizen’s Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials met on May 19 to decide on the salaries for the county’s elected officials for 2021.The Salary Commission sets the salaries for the auditor, assessor, county clerk, treasurer, commissioners, coroner, prosecutor and sheriff.
Darren Jones, salary commission chair said that with everything that has been going on with COVID-19, there are many financial woes in the area.
“In previous years of economic struggles in the area we gave zero percent increases,” Jones said. “This was all due to the economy.”
The motion was made to freezing any salary increases this year and readdress next year. The vote was made unanimously to freeze salaries for the 2021 year.
“We will do our due diligence in the following year,” Jones said. He said that when salaries are decided the commission looks at and compares other elected officials in comparable counties.
