Jennings: new LaCrosse PreK-12 principal

LACROSSE – The LaCrosse School District has hired Jordan Jennings from the Moses Lake School District as the new PreK-12 principal for the 2020-2021 school year.

“Jennings was picked because he was the best fit for what our school needs right now,” said LaCrosse Superintendent Doug Curtis.

Jennings's most recent professional experience includes working for the Moses Lake School District for the past five years. During this time he worked as a K-5 music teacher while also being a principal designee and substitute for the past two years for Moses Lake elementary, middle and high school buildings.

“I'm looking forward to getting to know the students, staff and the community,” Jennings said. “I'm excited to promote academic excellence within the school and community.”

Jennings received an Associate of Arts in General Education from Pierce College in Lakewood, Wash., in 2011. Jennings went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, Washington K-12 certified, from Eastern Washington University in 2014. In 2019, Jennings received a Masters of Education in School Administration, Washington P-12 certified, from Central Washington University.

Jennings said he enjoyed the small town feel of LaCrosse and looks forward to being back in the area. Jennings and his wife have two children.

He said his first goal when arriving to LaCrosse is to get to know the students and staff. He feels it is important that he develop this connection right from the beginning.

“Another goal I have is to learn the culture of the staff and community since I do come from out of the county. I want to listen to the staff and what their needs and concerns are,” Jennings said.

In an announcement to LaCrosse parents, Supt. Curtis said Jennings comes with high reviews for his impact and contributions to the Moses Lake School District. He is described as a “Lifelong Learner” who is very passionate about student learning and achievement.

The biggest thing Jennings feels the community should know is that he has mild to moderate hearing loss.

“'I've had to work hard to overcome a great deal of these challenges because of this disability,” Jennings said. “I'm continually working on my hearing and listening skills.”

He said he's had to do a lot to get to where he is at today and hopes that his ability to overcome these challenges will be an example to the students at LaCrosse.

“I want to be an example to these students that they know if they have challenges they can overcome those challenges. If I can do it, so can they, and they can learn to be a life long learner,” Jennings said.
