Traffic stop lands two in jail

COLFAX – Two men were booked into the Whitman County Jail for possession of methamphetamine May 27 after a traffic stop.

According to the arrest report, Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Alcantar pulled over a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer at about 9:30 p.m. May 26. The driver, identified as Jason Wright, 40, Spokane Valley, had a suspended license and was arrested. As he exited the vehicle, Dep. Alcantar saw drug paraphernalia; Wright admitted to having a meth pipe in the center console.

The passengers were allowed to leave before a voluntary search of the vehicle which yielded more paraphernalia with methamphetamine residue and containers of methamphetamine. After Wright told deputies a container of meth and large glass pipe belonged to one of the passengers, Gregory Klahn, 36, was also arrested. Klahn also had a felony Department of Corrections warrant.

Bail for Wright was set at $15,000 surety or $1,500 cash. Bail for Klahn was set at $5,000 surety or $500 cash. Arraignment for both men has been set for Friday.
