City, county officers respond to scams

COLFAX – Local law enforcement agencies are seeing reports of new scams in Colfax for bank account numbers and social security information.

A Colfax resident was scammed by a man claiming to be from the Secret Service in Alaska with "mega-millions" to disperse. The scammer asked for the resident’s bank account number to deposit funds, but instead withdrew money from the account. The resident canceled the account, but scammers followed up with a new angle, claiming to be FBI attempting to track the scammers.
