A garage in Palouse suffered some damage Monday morning when fire from a garbage can caught the vinyl siding on fire.
Palouse Fire Department and Whitman County Fire Dist. 12 responded at about 10:30 a.m. to the fire on Proctor Street. According to Fire Chief Scott Beeson, the belief is cotton rags that had been used to apply a wood stain and then were sealed in plastic bags where they couldn't vent and overheated in the garbage can next to the garage. A fire investigator from Pullman determined the cause was accidental.
No one was hurt in the incident. Vinyl siding on the garage burned, but there was little structural damage.
