PALOUSE — The first use of the new flag ordinance in Palouse is underway, as the city flew flags July 24-28, in honor of Monday’s National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day which marked the 67th anniversary of the end of the war.
Flags displayed on Main Street in Palouse include American flag and City of Palouse flag.
The city – which passed an ordinance July 14 to take over flag displays from the volunteer Palouse Lions Club – is still waiting for arrival of Washington State flags and POW/MIA flags.
The three-year Korean War cost more than 36,000 American lives, with more than 103,000 wounded and nearly 8,000 missing in action. North Korea, China and the United Nations signed the 1953 armistice.
