Shave and a haircut at Legends Barbershop

COLFAX-Shelaine Damon Starrett is back in her hometown with razor and clippers ready to go. Starrett, 33, opened Legends Barbershop at 105 ½ Canyon Street July 21 after running her own shop for the past four years in Pullman.

"I'm a mix of modern barbering and old school barbering," she said in her two-chair studio.

Starrett grew up in Colfax and attended Mr. Leon's School of Hair Design in Moscow. She earned her cosmetology license in 2006 and starting cutting hair the next year.

While she thought she would enjoy doing women's cuts, colors and perms, that did not turn out to be the case.

"I like doing the men's services better than the women's services," she said.

Starrett began barbering in 2010. She uses a variety of tools from clippers to straight razor for haircuts, shaves, beard trims and more.

"Any type of haircut your heart desires," she said.

After earning her license, Starrett worked in Pullman at Fantastic Sams, Super Cuts and The Man Shop. She was also manager at Super Cuts and The Man Shop before opening Legends in Pullman in May 2016. Pullman was "too crazy," so she has shifted to the Colfax scene, bringing the same name and concept with her.

Starrett also rents a station in Moscow. For the time being, she plans to work at both locations during the week. She has no set hours at this time for either location.

When not cutting hair, Starrett enjoys camping, hanging with friends and family, including husband Derek and their three dogs.
