Gubernatorial candidate, Colfax grad Dylan Nails, makes his way down Main Street on his way to cast his ballot.
COLFAX--Primary elections night counted 23.11% of the 22,267 Whitman County eligible voters with next count due for Wednesday. There were 5,147 ballots counted with an estimate 3,000 left.
Colfax grad Dylan Nails received 69 votes for 1.36% of the local county vote for the governor seat. Top gubernatorial candidate in the county was Jay Inslee with 2,194 for 43.18%. Behind him Whitman County voters gave 818 votes, 16.1%, to Loren Culp and 598 votes for 11.77% to Raul Garcia. With Washington's top two system, the two candidates with the highest percent of votes statewide will advance to the general election.
In the only contested county seat, challenger Tom Handy was leading incumbent Dist. 2 County Commissioner Dean Kinzer 490 to 460 votes on the first night count. Both will face off in the general election in November.
Farmington's levy propositions for street maintenance and repairs and current expense fund had garnered more support than not with 52.5% approving prop. 1 and 55% approving prop. 2.
Garfield's street maintenance and improvement levy proposals had received 63.06% yea.
Congressional Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers led with 49.78% with Dave Wilson closest challenger at 24.80% of the county vote.
Pullman's Brett Borden trailed incumbent Mary Dye for the Dist. 9 position #1 state rep seat with 1205 votes to her 2996.
District 9 State Senator Mark Schoesler garnered 2799 votes to Democrat Jenn Goulet's 2077.
Statewide first count in the Aug. 4 primary election for statewide offices:
Governor - Incumbent Gov. Jay Inslee, 51.965, Loren Culp, 16.7%, Joshua Freed, 7.27%, Tim Eyman, 7.04%, Raul Garcia, 4.99%; Sen. Phil Fortunato, 4.07%, and Lee Aaron Lawson, 1.25%. All other candidates were below 1%.
Lieutenant Governor - Denny Heck, 27.78%, Marko Liias, 16.65%, Ann Davison Sattler, 11.54%, Marty McClendon, 10.78%, Richard "Dick" Muri, 9.9%, Michelle Jasmer, 8.845, Joseph Brumbles, 7.55%, James Rafferty, 2.75%, Bill Penor, 2.2%, Matt Seymor, 1.02% and Jared Frerichs, 0.79%.
Secretary of State - Incumbent Kim Wyman, 50.13%, Gael Tarleton, 44.73%, Ed Minger, 3.24% and Gentry Lange, 1.81%.
State Treasurer - Mike Pellicciotti, 54.15%, and Duane Davidson, 45.73%.
State Auditor - Patrice McCarthy, 48.2%, Chris Leyba, 40.59% and Joshua Casey, 11.11%.
State Attorney General - Incumbent Bob Ferguson, 56.77%, Matt Larkin, 23.49%, Brett Rogers, 12.39%, and Mike Vaska, 7.23%.
Public Lands Commissioner - Incumbent Hilary Franz, 51.64%, Sue Kuehl Pederson, 21.76%, Cameron Whitney, 9.08%, Steve Sharon, 7.94%, Kelsey Reyes, 2.91% and Maryam Abasbarzy, 1.09%.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction - Chris Reykdal, 40.325, Maia Espinoza, 23.98%, Ron Higgins, 20.21%, Dennis Wick, 5.96%, David Spring, 5.54%, and Stan Lippman, 3.5%.
Insurance Commissioner - Incumbent Mike Kreidler, 60.16%, Chirayu Avinash Patel, 27.89%, and Anthony Welti, 11.75%.
More than 1.1 million ballots have been counted in each of the statewide races. Ballot counts will continue throughout the week.
