Camano Island man arrested for DUI

Suspect held on $200,000 bail after injury crash in Pullman

PULLMAN — A Camano Island man was booked into Whitman County Jail after police arrested him at a collision scene Monday evening, Aug. 10.

John Odegaard, 53, was booked into the jail and is being held on $200,000 bail on possible charges of driving while under the influence, vehicular assault and an ignition interlock violation.

He will be arraigned Friday, Aug. 14.

According to a police report, officer Josh Bray came across a two-vehicle crash at 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Grand Avenue and Whitman Street as it was being reported.

When he approached the first vehicle, the driver door was open and the driver — later identified as Odegaard — had one foot on the ground, the other inside, a report said. Bray observed an unopened alcoholic beverage on the floorboard.

The driver exhibited slow, slurred speech and droopy eyes, the report said.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for concussion evaluation. According to the report, the driver had memory loss from the time of the collision and was later released from the hospital.

By the time Bray returned to the first vehicle, the beverage can had been moved, the report said, and the driver allegedly did not know where it went. Bray administered field sobriety tests and arrested Odegaard.

Officers were advised Odegaard had a pre-trial ignition interlock device restriction, the report said, noting no interlock was installed.
