4H plans for small animal showcase

COLFAX–WSU Extension will host a virtual showcase for small animals that would traditionally show at the fair. The showcase will feature cats, rabbit, cavy and poultry. Any youth who had enrolled in 4H is eligible to participate in the showcase.

Exhibitors will need to submit a two to three minute video, answer four questions in an essay form and submit via Google Forms. Entries can be in fitting and showing and costume class.

“The kids have such fun doing the costume class,” said Janet Schmidt, Extension director.

Deadline for submissions is Sept. 9.

If it goes well, Extension may look at adding other showcases for other project classes.

“We’re trying to keep it simple,” Schmidt said.

To enter the virtual showcase, exhibitors need to go to extension.wsu.edu/whitman/youth/virtual-showcase-info/ and submit their entry. The link provides step-by-step instructions on how to enter.

Extension is also hosting a second demonstration day on Sept. 9 via Zoom. According to Schmidt, 12 youth participated in a similar demonstration day last month. Due to the success of that one, another is being offered. Youth can contact the Extension office at 509-397-6290 to reserve a time. Participants will receive ribbons and feedback from judges.
