Perkins House set vintage fashion show

COLFAX-The Perkins House will host a drive-by vintage fashion show and fundraiser to showcase a new collection of vintage dresses and vests and collect donations for the Colfax Food Bank. The event is set for Sept. 19, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Perkins House, with three activities planned. Donations are also being sought to help restore the foundation of the Perkins House.

The Perkins House usually conducts a fashion show during the Ice Cream Social put on by the historical society in June. With that event canceled for the year, this is an opportunity for the public to see the selection of vintage clothing and take a moment to reflect on days of yore.

Even the most timid of spectators can enjoy the event with a drive-by viewing of the fashion with only a brief pause to hand off their non-perishable food donation or financial donation to masked and gloved volunteers.

For those wanting to stretch their legs a bit, three "vignettes" will be set up around the property depicting different scenes. Costumed volunteers will be actively involved in a tea party, game of croquet and the two-person swing. Volunteers will be grouped by family ties and distanced from spectators. Arrows and lines on the grass with indicate walking barriers for visitors.

Self-guided house tours will also be available. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available.

In the event of inclement weather or a surge in Whitman County COVID cases, the event could be canceled or held on a smaller scale inside the house.
