Canceled Haunted Palouse looks to next year

PALOUSE—Haunted Palouse will disappear for 2020, after organizers announced July 29 they will not hold the perennial fundraiser over two weekends in October because of concerns over the virus.

Leaders considered options for no-contact haunted buildings, a solely outdoor event as well as a possible pay-per-view “Haunted Palouse” movie.

“We could not come up with a solution that would ensure a reasonable measure of safety for our staff and visitors,” said co-chair Nicole Flansburg. “Even if future Washington state requirements allow us to have more folks at the venues in October, everyone’s personal safety takes priority, regardless.”

In turn, Haunted Palouse organizers have encouraged people to support the groups which put on and benefit from the event each year. The list includes: Palouse Chamber of Commerce, Garfield/Palouse Athletic Club, ViKotics, Gar/Pal FFA, Palouse Area Robotics Team (PART), Palouse Skatepark/Tony Kettel Skate Gardens ad well as the Roy Chatters Newspaper & Printing Museum, Palouse Lions Club, Xenodicans and the GPOP Swim Team.

Flansburg, co-chair Alexa Beckett-Bohnner and others took over as leaders of Haunted Palouse for 2020 after a group of the event’s founders stepped back after 17 years.

“Plans are already underway for next year and we hope to have everyone safely return for some haunting fun at HP 2021,” Flansburg said.
