Serving Whitman County since 1877
Arthur Fournier, a fixture in the St. John community, passed away September 11, 2020, at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax at the age of 87. A graveside service will be Thursday, September 17th, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Cemetery.
Arthur was born October 3, 1932, in Thornton, Washington, to Theodore and Rachel Stilson Fournier. His mother passed away when he was a small baby and he was raised by his step-mother, Anna. Eventually the Fournier’s sold the family farm near Thornton and moved to the Spokane Valley.
Here Arthur helped with maintenance and chores at their apartment building. He found work as a janitor at the Spokane Corner Club and after many years of work there they would even let him pour the beer sometimes. He loved to tell stories and occasionally the off-colored joke or two.
Arthur has lived in St. John for the last ten years or so, where he became a quick fixture around town. He could often be seen pushing his shopping cart with his dog riding inside. “Art the Cart” was his affectionate nickname. He loved dogs and often spoiled them with “people” food.
He will be missed by many in the community and those he called his “St. John family”. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of the arrangements.
