COLFAX--Shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Huber Action Freight after reports of an individual at that location trying to wave down passing motorists.
When Deputy Randy Miller arrived on scene he confronted a subject, identified as Jarrett Lynn Reedy, 31, of Spokane, in the parking lot of the business. According to to the arrest report, Reedy told Deputy Miller he was trying to get home. As Deputy Miller spoke with Reedy he noticed the handle of a firearm sticking out of the pocket of his sweatshirt. Miller ordered Reedy to the ground and secured the scene until backup units could arrive. According to the arrest report, the gun has was in a black plastic holster with the safety off and in the “fire” position and had a loaded magazine with a round in the chamber.
It was later determined that Jarrett, a nine-time convicted felon had stolen the .45 caliber pistol out of an employee’s vehicle.
After additional investigation deputies determined that Reedy had also broken into a vehicle at another business just down the road. That incident is still under investigation, according to a Sheriff’s release.
Reedy was booked into the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, vehicle prowl second degree, theft of a firearm and criminal trespassing in the second degree. Reedy has three previous convictions of unlawful firearm possession and one previous conviction of possession of stolen firearm.
In a first appearance before Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey Sept. 30, bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety. Arraignment is set for Oct. 2.
