Gary Alvin Saunders, 57, a long time Colfax resident, lost his battle with lung cancer Friday evening, September 18th, at his home with the help of hospice.
On August 21, 1963, Evelyn and William Saunders became parents to twin boys, Larry and Gary Saunders. The boys were raised by their mother until she passed away when the boys were 10 years old.
Gary and Larry then lived with their military father who moved around, living as far away as Germany. Upon returning back to the States, they lived in Georgia where Gary met the love of his life, Sandy, and they had a daughter Nicole Marie.
Gary moved to Colfax, Washington where he started his career in the auto body industry. He worked for many years for Karen and Mike Johnson at Ben's Body Shop. Gary ended his career working for Eric and Gretchen Heise at Eric's Auto Body.
Gary loved all animals, but cats were his favorite. He had a housecat named Panda who was his best friend and companion. He loved watching Nascar races, enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his friends.
Gary leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Marie Stansell, his son-in-law Logan Stansell, two grandkids, Aiden and Everley and soon a granddaughter, Lorelai, all of Georgia. He also leaves behind an uncle, Charles Harman of Spokane, two cousins, Colleen Harman and Denise Fell, another uncle, Don Saunders, niece Jennifer, his sister-in-law Sue Saunders and niece Baily.
