Online WSU forestry "field" day helps woodland owners care for trees

PULLMAN – Owning land with a forest of trees can be easier with education provided by Washington State University, Snohomish Conservation District, and the Society of American Foresters.

The 2020 Washington Forest Owners' Online Field Day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24.

"With an alarming increase in the number of dead trees throughout Pacific Northwest, taking better care of forested areas is critical. Owners of wooded property (can) build skills for caring for their land and trees," WSU Extension Forester Brendan Whyte said

The online Field Day features workshops and demonstrations on topics for forest property owners, from "newbie" to seasoned veteran. Participants can choose up to four workshops to attend with topics including forest health, wildlife, wildfire prevention, mushroom cultivation on logs, invasive weed control and more, Whyte said.

Videos will be streamed via Zoom with the speakers available to discuss and answer questions.

Pre-registration is required, but attendance is free.

Youth under 18 are allowed.
