Team with Colton players drops to 4-2
COLTON –– The Genesee High School football team – and its five Colton players – went down twice to blowouts in the last week, its first two losses of the year.
On Monday night at home, the Bulldogs lost 56-6 to Clearwater Valley. Last Friday, Oct. 9, at Kamiah for the Kubs’ Homecoming, Genesee got run 72-14.
On Monday, across the Idaho border, Genesee (2-2 Whitepine League Division I) trailed 26-0 at halftime.
“Another tough loss,” said coach Alex Schnebly. “We had a couple sparks of good and we’re hoping to rally off that this week.”
One such spark he mentioned was Wyatt Jordan, a sophomore linebacker from Colton, who contributed to 13 tackles and batted a pass.
Bulldogs’ quarterback Angus Jordan, also a Colton sophomore, went out of Monday’s game in the third quarter with a throwing-hand injury, finishing 4-of-11 for 18 yards and an interception.
Dalton McCann, a junior receiver from Colton, scored the Bulldogs’ only touchdown, in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard-pass play from the backup quarterback, freshman Teak Wareham.
Genesee is set to play next on Oct. 19 at Prairie, the second of three Monday games – makeups after cancellations related to the virus and other schools’ schedules. Unbeaten Prairie is the defending state Idaho I-A champions. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
“We’re just gonna come out with something totally different,” said Schnebly. “We’re hoping it’s something that the league hasn’t seen before. Conventional football hasn’t worked against Prairie. Maybe it’s time for something unconventional.”
Against Kamiah
After four wins to start the season and a quarantine delay after a coach tested positive for COVID-19, Genesee lost on the road. The Bulldogs trailed 36-6 at halftime.
“Kamiah just came out really prepared,” said Schnebly. “Our kids weren’t quite ready for the physicality of their kids.”
Four Colton players start for Genesee; Jordan at quarterback, junior Jaxon Moehrle at center/defensive tackle, sophomore Grant Wolf, defensive tackle, and Wyatt Jordan at linebacker.
