Public works reminds plowing priorities

COLFAX - Prior to the first expected snowfall of the season, Whitman County Public Works advised school superintendents, post offices and the public about the policies regard snow removal.

First priority is for paved county roads.

Second priority is for remaining school bus and mail routes.

Final is other access roads.

Gravel roads are not plowed unless there is 6 inches of snow or drifting conditions.

Weekend work only applies to snow conditions at the discretion of road superintendents. There is a superintendent for each of the three road districts.

If snow removal does not occur during the weekend, Monday snow removal may take longer, resulting in delayed access for school buses.

Schools and post offices were advised to contact the public works office or district supervisors for current information on road conditions.
