Colfax hires new police officer

COLFAX — The Colfax Police Department hired new officer 29-year-old Tyler Paris.

He started Monday, filling out paperwork, beginning to study radio procedures and policy manuals, and getting measured for gear, according to city officials.

Paris is going to the police academy in Burien Dec. 2 for five months of training. Until then, Paris will observe and work with Colfax police as a cadet.

“A great, qualified candidate for an entry-level (position),” said Mayor Jim Retzer, who is a Washington State Patrol trooper.

Paris is originally from the San Francisco area. He went to a police academy in California in 2013 before attending Multnomah University in Portland, Ore., for a bachelor’s degree in bible theology and youth ministry. He played on the basketball team, according to city officials.

Paris is married with a 15-month old son.

The Colfax department received 15 applicants for the job, five of which remain to be considered for the department’s second opening, according to city officials. The city hopes to hire for this by February.
