Oregon tops WSU, 43-29

PULLMAN - The Washington State University Cougars showed Saturday night that they can play with the best in the NCAA.

But a strong first half wasn't enough to keep the No. 11 ranked Oregon Ducks from flying away.

WSU took a 19-14 lead to the half, but Oregon pulled way to finish the game with a 43-29 Pac 12 victory.

True freshman quarterback Jayden de Laura threw for 25-of-39, 321 yards and two touchdowns in the failing Cougar effort.

Those two touchdown passes were to Lucas Bacon and Renald Bell.

Bell led WSU with 158 yards receiving.

On the other side of the ball, Oregon QB Tyler Shough completed 21-of-30 for 312 yards and four TDs.

For the Ducks, Jaylon Redd led Oregon receivers with 5 catches for 99 yards, but no TDs.

On the ground, Oregon's C.J. Verdell led all players with 18 carries for 118 yards and one TD.

WSU's top rusher was Deon McIntosh with 16 carries for 92 yards and one TD.

With the win, Oregon remains undefeated at 2-0. Meanwhile, the Cougars drop to 1-1.

WSU is on the road this week to Stanford. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.

The Cougars will return home on Friday, Nov. 27 for the annual Apple Cup showdown against University of Washington.Game time is 7:30 p.m.

While the NCAA football season continues, Gov. Jay Inslee's coronavirus orders prevent spectators from attending games in Pullman.
