PULLMAN — A homeless man made his first appearance Monday after allegedly breaking into a frat house at Washington State University.
Initially, Indiana Ludwick, 27, was being held without bail since his arrest late Saturday, Nov. 28. He was booked into the Whitman County Jail early Sunday morning, Nov. 29. Bail was set at $10,000 surety.
He had been living in the frat house for about three days, Whitman County Superior Court records state.
Police responded to a call of unsecured premises late Saturday at Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, records show.
An officer noticed a door was propped open on the building and knocked, court records show. There was no response, but he heard a door close.
Police were advised by the fraternity president that no one was supposed to be in the building, according to the documents.
During a search of the building, Officer Jeff Gordon saw a man — later identified as Ludwick — crawl out of a window well, records show.
Ludwick told officers he was homeless and had seen an open window while walking by the fraternity and entered, according to the report.
He claimed he did not cause damage, but allegedly confessed to stealing a gym bag and gloves, which he unsuccessfully attempted to sell, and a phone charger cord, records show. He also allegedly told police he ate food and drink he found in the house.
