Serving Whitman County since 1877

Donations, names sought for Toy Box

COLFAX — Givers and receivers are still coming in for the Colfax Fireman’s Toy Box, which provides toys to families with children.

“This year, the children need Christmas more than ever,” Toy Box “elf” Tracy Mathia said.

Last year, the Toy Box served 267 youth from across Whitman County, except Pullman. The turnout is expected to be greater this year due to the pandemic and fires.

Instead of one big shopping event as in past years, the “elves” have been shopping more online; more toys are needed.

The Toy Box giveaway is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec 14-16, and Dec. 17 if needed in First Baptist Church gymnasium.

According to Mathia, a limited number of people will be allowed inside at one time.

Families will not touch the toys until after they have been placed in a bag — a personal shopper will be assigned to help each person with toy selection.

Gifts cannot be exchanged or returned after pickup.

The dot system used to select toys last year will be in place.

Register by Dec. 11 by emailing [email protected].

Donations of new toys or money can be dropped off at the fire station or mailed to Colfax Fireman’s Toy Box, P.O. Box 226, Colfax, 99111.
