Port to host hearing on proposed land sale

PULLMAN — The Port of Whitman County will hold an 11 a.m. Jan. 7 digital public hearing regarding the proposed sale of the last of the land it owns at its Locust Grove Industrial Park, also known as Pullman Industrial Park-West.

The proposed sale is to Pullman-based Veterinary Medical Research and Development, which operates adjacent to Lots 19-21 of the industrial park.

The company approached the port to purchase the 8.36 acres of undeveloped land near the intersection of Grand Avenue North and Pullman-Albion Road.

The proposed use of the land is light industrial business expansion, officials said.

Earlier this year, the port sold 26.5 acres to Texas-based Aspen Heights for multi-family apartments.

By purchasing the remaining lots, the company will create a buffer between itself and the new residential development and will retain the option of future expanding, Port Properties and Development Manager Debbie Snell said. The company is “jam-packed” with its current work.

Veterinary Medical Research and Development bought its original lots from Steve Mader, the land developer from whom the port purchased its property.

The Jan. 7 public hearing is the first step in the process to sell the property. Then, port commissioners will vote on whether to declare the lots surplus and approve the sale.

The digital public hearing is accessible through the http://www.portwhitman.com.
