Prevent frozen pipes

COLFAX — Colfax Public Works Director Matt Hammer advises residents to take precautions to keep their water pipes from freezing in the cold temperatures forecasted for the week.

Faucets should run at a trickle overnight as well as cupboards left open to allow more heat to circulate near pipes.

Outside, residents are asked to disconnect hoses from faucets.

Forecasts call for temperatures to get down to the mid-teens Wednesday night and to as low as 8 degrees Thursday and Friday nights.

If residences’ pipes do freeze, Hammer said people should call the city first. They will make sure it is not the water meter that has frozen, which is most often the first thing to freeze. Beyond that, people should call their plumber.

“Bundle up,” said Hammer.
