Whitman County Public Works Road Department is requesting any persons in Whitman County wishing to designate a portion of a Whitman County Road right-of-way as a “NO-SPRAY” area, please contact the Public Works Office at (509) 397-5200 for information and agreement applications. Verification and confirmation of all existing “NO-SPRAY” areas is necessary. Failure to confirm your “NO-SPRAY” area may result in that area being treated with residual and noxious chemicals. Please apply by March 1, 2021 for residual and noxious weed control on all roads, gravel and paved.

NOTICE OF DETERMINATION OF NONSIGNIFICANCE (DNS) AND AN ADMINISTRATIVE USE PERMIT

Whitman County Planning issued a Determination of Nonsignificance (DNS) under the State Environmental Policy Act Rules (Chapter 197-11 WAC) for the following project:

Whitman County Emergency Management & Communication proposes construction of a 120’ communication tower, shelter, and security fence located on Bald Butte, accessed off Becker Road. The tower is to replace an existing 60’ communication tower and shelter that provides public safety radio coverage to southern Whitman County. The project will begin in May 2021, with a construction period of two months.

The project is located in southeast quarter of Section 1, Township 13N., Range 45E., W. M., Whitman County, Washington.

After review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with us, the Planning Office has determined that this proposal will not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment.

An administrative use permit is being issued by the County Planner for this proposal. County code allows for an administrative review for towers greater in height than 40 feet in the Agricultural District.

Copies of the DNS are available at no charge from the Planning Office, Whitman County Public Service Building (2nd Floor), N. 310 Main St., Colfax, WA 99111.
