United Methodist ceremony honored two veterans
COLFAX — Quilts of Valor were presented to two veterans last Friday at Colfax United Methodist Church.
The first went to Richard (Rick) Collingsworth, of Colfax, who served in the Navy from 1971-81, as an E6 First Class boiler technician.
He served four years on the U.S.S. John Paul Jones destroyer escort and two years with the shore police in San Diego, three years on the U.S.S. Jouett destroyer and two more years onboard the U.S.S. Ajax Auxiliary Repair Ship.
The second went to Gary L. Stinson, of Clarkston, who served in the U.S. Army Specialist in Germany from 1965-67.
Local quilters will present three more Quilts of Valor on Friday at the Methodist Church at 11 a.m., followed by another two on March 10 at 11 a.m.
The quilts presented are among 180,000 others provided by the Quilts of Valor Foundation since they began their work in 2003.
Recipients are located through local referrals, family members’ requests, and more.
