Snake River Family Festival adds 30 days

BOYER PARK — The annual Snake River Family Festival will be a socially-distanced event for 2021.

Held at Boyer Park and Marina for its fourth year, it is organized by the Port of Whitman.

This year the formerly one-Saturday event in May will run through the 31 days of the month.

The first 500 registrants receive free ice cream and “festival goody bags,” including river-related puzzles and games, Frisbees, and bubbles.

The bags are designed to contain activities to “create your own festival,” said Port Executive Director Joe Poire.

“It was really important to us that people could still experience the festival on the river, but do so safely,” Poire said. “This year’s festival will allow families to pick and choose what they want their festival to look like. If you have small children, bubble wands and some sticky ice cream might be your main attraction. Or if your kids are school age, a board game about the salmon life cycle and a crossword puzzle that gets you walking or biking the Snake River Trail could be a fun way to learn about our river system. And, of course, everyone loves ice cream – whether you’re 6 or 60.”

Registration opens May 1 on the Snake River Family Festival’s Facebook page.
